This morning my boyfriend Sean and I went to a meeting for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's team in training. Team in training helps inspired people participate in triathlons, bike rides and marathons. Sean and I are signed up to run a marathon on January 10th, 2009 in Walt Disney World.
My inspiration is,my friend from SUNY Geneseo, Jacquie Hirsch. Jacquie passed away on Saturday September 6th at 8:30 pm after almost a year long battle with A.L.L. (Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia).
Jacquie and I bartended together at the Inn Between during college. In addition to spending our weekends together through work, we developed a very close friendship. Jacquie, myself and our friend Pauline became "girlfriends." We did this because we were members of different sororities and couldn't call eachother "sisters," but wanted just as meaningful as a name. Hi! My name is Renee Marchak and I am also with Team In Training of Central NY. I will be running in the Walt Disney World 1/2 Marathon on 1/10/2009. It was by sheer coincidence that I came upon your page. And then, as I read through your profile I noticed that the young lady you are running in memory of is the same person that my teammate, Sarah Lintz is also running in memory of. It was as if my coming across your page was "meant to be". I understand that you live in Stony Point?? I grew up in Rockland County... Spring Valley. My parents and sister now live in Pomona. My sister lives off Theills Mt. Ivy Rd. And my parents live off of Rt. 202 just past Casso-Solar. Anyway, I will be traveling down to visit them either the 1st or 2nd week in December. I contacted someone from your local chapter to see if I could join your team for a run on one of those weekends. If it is the 1st weekend I think I'm scheduled to run 6mi. If it is the 2nd weekend, I think I'm scheduled to run 9mi. Either way, I don't want to do it alone :-) Can you tell me where you run down there?
